Grand Medieval Mêlée at the Castle

18.08.12 Grand Medieval Melee at Cardiff CastleThis year’s Grand Medieval Mêlée, featuring the ‘Tournament of the Knights’ when a knight’s reputation and fortune will be made or lost on the battlefield, will return for a thrilling weekend at Cardiff Castle on Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 August.

Squires, stewards and maidens in fabulous costumes will gather at ‘the Castle Tourney’ to witness the knights taking each other on in spectacular fighting displays – all on foot.  Fearsome strength, skill and a few dastardly deeds will be required in fistfuls to be the last knight standing and take the title of best in the tournament.

Around the arena, everyday life goes on, medieval-style. Within the colourful tented village that fills the Castle grounds will be demonstrations of medieval cooking, weaving and the essential preparations needed for battle.

An enthralling exhibition of the noble art of falconry, storytelling, have- a-go archery and medieval games will keep everyone entertained throughout the day.

Cabinet Member for Community Development, Co-operatives and Social Enterprise, Councillor Peter Bradbury said:” This promises to be a great family day out, full of the sounds, smells and sights of a medieval world.”
