Grants for local organisations

Another £3000 has been allocated to local organisations from Neath Port Talbot Council’s Community Safety Project Fund.

Groups that carry out projects which contribute to safer communities can apply to the council for grant funding.

£20,000 was set aside by the Council this financial year to support local organisations to develop projects.

So far, £13019 has been given out from the fund to community based projects, voluntary organisations projects and Safer Neath Port Talbot projects.

At a council meeting this week, councillors agreed to allocate another £3000 to five local groups.

Neath and Melyn Boxing Club were granted £493 to help them buy equipment.

Fairfield Boxing Club received £500 for equipment.

Cwmavon RFC were awarded £500 to buy a football kit for the under 12s team.

£500 went to Resolven Cricket Club to turf the cricket field so that the junior section can compete in the South Wales Junior Cricket league.

Skewen Cricket Club received £1000 to help with the purchase of security measures for the roof, windows and doors of the clubhouse to protect their equipment.

Council Leader, Ali Thomas, said the money would help local organisations provide opportunities for young people in their own communities.

“Thanks to the grants some young people who may not have had the chance to try different sports may now do so.

“Finding purposeful activities for young people will reduce the risk of disengagement and potential involvement in crime and anti social behaviour.”
