The Llwyddo’n Lleol project is continuing to help Gwynedd’s young entrepreneurs to start their own businesses. Recently thee young men from the Pen Llŷn area have received a bursary of up to £1,000 to establish their own photography businesses.

Llwyddo’n Lleol is a project led by Gwynedd Council in cooperation with Anglsey, Conwy and Denbighshire Councils to encourage a culture of enterprise among young people aged 11-19.

Funded by the European Social Fund, the project organises a range of activities to boost young people’s confidence in what they can do to gain work in their communities – and to encourage them to consider self-employment as a viable career option.

Billy Bagillhole from Llannor near Pwllheli received a bursary to buy a video camera to develop his filming business further.

Billy Bagillhole said:

“The bursary form Llwyddo’n Lleol has enabled me to develop one of my interests and what I learnt during my foundation degree in Art into a business. I’ve already been filming videos for local bands, and with the new camera I’ll be able to film videos of higher quality and hopefully grow my business further.”

Jim Ellis from Llwyndyrys near Pwllheli was also successful in his bid for a Llwyddo’n Lleol bursary to buy a small helicopter to take aerial photographs from the air and expand his photography business.

Jim Ellis said:

“I’m very interested in photography, and I was already taking aerial photographs by using a 17m mast to get photos from a different perspective. Hopefully the small helicopter will enable me to offer a unique service to customers to film over locations in a much easier and cheaper way than using a real helicopter.”

Luca Coles form Mynytho near Pwllheli received a bursary to develop what he learned during a work experience placement at Plas Glyn y Weddw Art Gallery, Llanbedrog into a photography business. During his time at the gallery Luca had been phpgraphing the art, grounds and the building itself; he will now sell these pictures as post cards in the gallery and to tourist websites.

Councillor John Wynn Jones, Gwynedd Council’s Economy Cabinet Member said:

“It’s vitally important that Gwynedd Council through the Llwyddo’n Lleol project supports the area’s young entrepreneurs to succeed in the business world. Indeed, the viability of the whole region’s economy depends on securing good livelihoods for our young people, be that in the business world or not, to ensure that they have the option of staying in their communities.

“The Llwyddo’n Lleol project has helped many young people across the county who has a business idea to develop their ideas further. I would encourage anyone who believes that they can do the same as these three to get in contact with the Llwyddo’n Lleol team.”
