14 Bafta Cymru wins for S4C

S4C has won 14 awards at the 2010 Bafta Cymru ceremony, including best actor, best actress, best director and best screenwriter.

One of the evening’s special awards – the Gwyn Alf Williams prize went to the S4C documentary series made by Tinopolis, Dwy Wraig Lloyd George, about the two wives of the Welsh politician presented by Ffion Hague.

The film Ryan a Ronnie, made by Boomerang Plus, about the life and careers of the legendary entertainers won four awards, including best actor for Aled Pugh who played the part of Ryan Davies, best screen writer for Meic Povey and best director:film drama for Rhys Powys.

Eiry Thomas who played Jane Jones in the daring drama Cwcw, made by Fondue Films, won best actress and the film also won best original music soundtrack.

Powerful drama documentary, Carwyn, on the life of famous rugby coach Carwyn James, made by Greenbay Media, and the film Ar y Tracs, written by Gavin and Stacey star, Ruth Jones, each won two awards. Ar y Tracs, made by Tidy Productions with Green Bay Media, won best sound and best costume and Carwyn won best director for Dylan Richards

Rhian Gibson, S4C’s Director of Commissioning, said, “I am very pleased that so many S4C programmes have won at the BAFTA Cymru Awards again this year. It’s a glowing tribute to the commitment and creative abilities of the production sector in Wales that so many programmes succeeded on the night. We congratulate all the programme-makers on their success.”
