Dragons game moved to Cardiff

Newport Gwent Dragons’ Pool 6 Heineken Cup match against London Wasps on Sunday has been switched to Cardiff City Stadium after the Rodney Parade pitch was deemed unfit for use this weekend.

Representatives of the Dragons and WRU official Dai Davies inspected the Rodney Parade pitch on Thursday (9 December) and decided that due to the current adverse weather conditions it would not be in a safe enough condition for the game to go ahead there on Sunday, 12 December.

The European encounter will now be played in Cardiff, the venue for this season’s Amlin Challenge Cup final on Friday, 20 May, 2011.The 1.00pm kick-off time and the broadcast coverage all remain the same.

Bad weather forced the Dragons to move their Heineken Cup Pool game against Biarritz Olympique from Rodney Parade to Parc y Scarlets last season.

The Cardiff City Stadium is home to the Cardiff Blues and Cardiff City and has already staged one Heineken Cup match this season when the Blues beat Edinburgh in Round 1.

The Blues are on the road this weekend, away to Northampton Saints on Saturday evening.
