A Police Community Support Officer dedicated to providing liaison and public reassurance is on the beat in the Caernarfon area.
PCSO Annette Jones, whose responsibility is to maintain contact with victims of crime, started her role as Reassurance Officer back in October and is relishing her job.
“I enjoy meeting people and I’m happy to be able to help make a difference,” said PCSO Jones, who joined North Wales Police two years ago and has worked in the Bangor, Bethesda and Caernarfon areas.
“This role involves visiting any victims of crime in the area and maintaining contact throughout the investigations by providing updates on the investigation progress. Every day is different,” she said, adding that she also does property marking sessions and regularly visit local schools and the elderly.
As part of her role as Reassurance Officer, PSCO Jones also works closely with other agencies such as the Fire and Rescue Service and has already been conducting joint visits with them.
“When the Fire and Rescue Service visit the elderly and vulnerable to offer free home fire safety checks, I also go along to talk to people about home security and property marking.”
The former Ysgol Bryn Elian dinner lady also works closely with the local Neighbourhood Policing Teams by carrying out high-visibility patrols and arranging community days, whereby police and other agencies come together to offer help and advice.
She also regularly visits Morrisons in Caernarfon with crime prevention advice and promoting the ‘Balance your Bobbies’ scheme.
Neighbourhood Policing Sergeant, Stephen Williams said: “PCSO Jones has been in this post since October, since which time she has contacted victims of crime on a daily basis providing reassurance and informing them that the incidents they have reported are being investigated.
“She provides updates not only to the victims but liaises with the investigating officers with enquiries which she has completed. This can include being part of house to house enquiries, property marking, house calls and visits. She also provides information as to who their local CBM/PCSO team are and how to contact them.
“The feedback we have received has been excellent and we believe that the public, and certainly her colleagues, are appreciative of her work.”
PCSO Jones will be part of the multi-agency team who will be in attendance at Morrisons in Caernarfon on 17th February – where various organisations and agencies will be available for advice and guidance on issues such as crime prevention and community safety.
