A special “thank you” event has been held at the University Hospital of Wales for a Mum who has raised money for equipment for the paediatric urology service.

Kate Horgan has been fundraising for the past few years to help buy equipment that will help patients with urology conditions, as Kayleigh, Kate’s daughter, was diagnosed with a dysfunctional bladder 10 years ago.

During the “thank you” event, Kayleigh presented the cheque to David Hanks, Directorate Head of Operations and Delivery for Acute Child Health and then they took a tour of the Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospital for Wales which has recently opened its impressive second phase.

Kate said: “It’s lovely to be able to help provide much needed equipment for this fantastic hopistal.”

The condition means that Kayleigh can not exercise the muscles in her bladder, causing her to suffer infections and hallucinations and putting her at risk of kidney failure.

Kate has raised over £12,000 in total. The funds have helped provide a new urodynamic analyser and a mini uteroscope set for the paediatric urology department which provides a comprehensive specialist outpatient and inpatient service for the management of secondary and tertiary paediatric urological conditions for the South Wales region.

David Hanks said: “I’d like to thank Kate for her magnificent efforts in raising money for the service. Valuable donations such as this mean that we are able to provide the best possible care for our young patients.”
