New Healthcare Facility for Dinas Powys

Dinas Powys centreA new £3m Health Resource Centre to meet the needs of the local community in Dinas Powys is under construction.

The Primary Care Centre, due to open early 2016, is based on the former St Cyres School site and is funded by Welsh Government and Cardiff and Vale University Health Board.

The Centre will deliver first class essential and enhanced primary care services to 10,000 residents in a modern, high quality, primary care facility.

The new Centre is an important part of Cardiff and Vale University Health Board’s overall strategy for refocusing care so that it is provided in the community, as close to patients as possible.

Professor Marcus Longley, the Health Board’s Vice Chair said: “We are delighted that work has started on this brand new, purpose-built Centre. This project marks a significant step in the development of primary and community healthcare in Cardiff and Vale, and will provide the local community with a first class health facility.”

Dr Thomas & Partners will relocate from the existing Health Care Centre which was built in 1971. The current building has limited the expansion of new services for the area but the new development will help to expand the support the Centre can offer to the community.

Dr Sue Thomas, Senior Partner at the practice, said: “This development is more than 10 years in the making and it is great to see it taking shape. It will mean the people of Dinas Powys will have a state-of-the-art health facility which will allow a greater range of health services to be delivered to the local community.”

In order to provide a fully integrated facility, a community pharmacy will be based within the new Centre. TH&L Jones Ltd, a local pharmacy based on Murch Road will take occupation of the Centre at the same time to provide a one stop shop for patients and visitors.

Brackley Investments, a specialist Primary Care Development company, is leading the development and has appointed John Weavers (Contractors) Limited, based in South Wales, to build the new Centre.

Geoff Simm Development Director of Brackley Investments said: “We are pleased with the progress that John Weavers (Contractors) Limited is making regarding the construction of the new Medical Centre. We look forward to handing it over to the Doctors in early 2016 to allow them to deliver an enhanced range of services to the residents of Dinas Powys in the future”.
