Pembrokeshire County Council staff are doing their bit for the victims of the earthquake in Haiti.
Jeanette Clarke, an officer in the Social Care and Housing department, organised a raffle at County Hall and a coffee morning in Haverfordwest to raise money for the victims of the devastating disaster.
Together the two events are expected to raise over £3,000 for the Disaster Appeal.
After the raffle at County Hall last Friday, hundreds of people turned up for the coffee morning held at the Picton Centre on Saturday.
Members of the Social Care department rallied round with home made cakes and donations.
Councillor Huw George manned the doors and ran the auction, while Councillor David Wildman took charge of the cake stall.
“People felt very strongly about it,” said Councillor Wildman. “One couple who had just won £25 on the premium bonds donated their prize, while another lady gave us a £20 note for the £1 entrance fee and told us to keep the change.”
“The event was extremely well supported and it’s good to know that people in Pembrokeshire care so much for the victims of the tragedy.”
A total of £2,389 was raised at both the County Hall raffle and the coffee morning, which together with Gift Aid should bring the amount raised to over £3,000.
Jeanette Clark said she wanted to thank everyone, who had contributed to the worthwhile cause.
