240 year 9 pupils from Cwmtawe Comprehensive School in the Swansea Valley went to see a special showing of the Climate Change Film “The Age of Stupid” last week.
The hit climate change film, by documentary film maker and campaigner, Franny Armstrong, had its premiere in London last March.
It gives out the message that global warming is caused by human actions and a few simple changes to our lifestyles at home can make a big difference. It reinforces the fact that climate change is the most serious environmental threat to the modern world.
Pupils from Cwmtawe were invited to the film showing, thanks to grant funding from the Welsh Assembly Government and the Wales Council for Voluntary Action and supported by Cynnal Cymru, Neath Port Talbot Council and Awel Aman Tawe.
“The council’s climate change team has been delivering the climate change message through its Greener campaign and by visiting schools throughout the county borough to give a range of talks on climate change issues including recycling, energy use and environmental crime,” says Council leader Ali Thomas.
“I have personally attended one school where the children were very responsive. I am confident, that, with the help of this scheme, we are making strides in improving the environment in which we live.”
Dan McCallum, Awel Aman Tawe’s manager, said, “The pupils from Cwmtawe were a credit to their school. They asked really good questions and clearly have a grasp of the urgency of dealing with climate change. It was clear that Cwmtawe has done a huge amount of work to gain its Eco Schools status and is really leading the way on recycling, gardening and engagement in local projects through the Duke of Edinburgh awards which was great to see.”
