Ysgol Gymraeg Morswyn is the first primary school on Anglesey to receive the prestigious ActiveMark Cymru award.
The Holyhead primary school has been rewarded for leading the way in providing high quality physical education and school sport.
The school is one of only 143 primary schools throughout Wales to have received the award to date.
Ysgol Morswyn is dedicated to sending staff on Physical Education and School Sport (PESS) courses, as the programme provides continuous professional development opportunities. Morswyn has also adopted a whole school approach in sharing ideas and resources across key stages and has utilised a mentoring process through the scheme.
Sport also plays a key role in the school’s extra curricular programme with a number of Dragon Sport clubs taking place after school. The school has always supported Dragon Sport festivals having recently attended cricket, indoor athletics and cross country festivals.
Anglesey’s Senior Active Young People Officer, Owain Jones, presented the school with its prestigious award recently.
He said, “This is a great achievement for Ysgol Morswyn and recognition of the school’s commitment to providing quality physical education and sport for pupils. I soon hope to see other primary schools on the Island following in their footsteps and gaining the ActiveMark award.”
Next closing date for applications is April 30th 2010. For more information please contact Senior Active Young People Officer, Owain Jones, on 01248 751882 or visit: http://www.sports-council-wales.org.uk/getactiveinthecommunity/active-young-people/activemarc-cymru
