Sport.Cardiff in association with Golf Development Wales are offering a series of subsidised lessons for ladies interested in trying their hand at golf for the first time.
New clubs and schemes have been introduced in order to make golf more accessible and one tees off very soon.
As part of the scheme, ‘Ladies Night’ at Heath Park Pitch and Putt begins during National Golf Awareness Week on Thursday, April 15 from 6.30pm to 7.30pm and is aimed at beginners, offering free PGA Professional Coaching in a relaxed and fun atmosphere. The first session will be free and the remaining five lessons will be £2 each.
A great example of the positives that sport can bring to people’s lives is from Bernadette Shephard who has an exciting story to tell.
Bernadette joined an introductory ladies club four years ago and in her words ‘has never looked back’. She went along for the lessons not knowing what to expect and enjoyed it so much she became a member of Peterston Golf Club; two years later winning at the Captain’s Day and reaching a handicap of 30 in that time.
Bernadette said: “I am so happy I went to the lesson, I felt quite nervous but everyone was so down to earth and so much fun I had a great time. I now play twice a week and not only is it good exercise, but it opened up a whole new social world which has been fantastic.”
Executive Member for Sport, Leisure and Culture Nigel Howells said: “The Ryder Wales Cup legacy has opened up so many avenues for those of all ages to enable them to enjoy sport in a relaxed and fun environment at a low cost. Many will go on to develop in the sport, which is what we anticipate when developing the groups and clubs. To hear stories such as Bernadette’s is an inspiration to the people of Cardiff to get involved.”
LESSON PLACES ARE LIMTIED AND WILL BE FILLED ON A FIRST COME FIRST SERVED BASIS. Please call Stuart Finlay for more information on lessons 07971 324 653.
