Construction Work starts on Learning Disabilities Centre

Work starts this week on Conwy’s new Learning Disabilities Centre at Riviere Avenue, Craig y Don, Llandudno.

The new purpose built centre will include five project rooms, dining facilities and office space – providing day services to adults with a learning disability.

A range of services will be available including care, therapy, education, a work-based recycling project, as well as specialised services for people with Autism.

Cllr Liz Roberts, Cabinet Member for Social Care and Wellbeing said, “I’m pleased to see work starting on the new Centre, this scheme is part of our aim to modernise services and is an integral part of the Council’s corporate plan.”

The contractor Peter Griffiths Ltd, is expected to take about 5 months to complete the building, which has been designed with energy efficiency, sustainability and low running costs in mind.

Over the next few months, staff will be working with service users, parents and carers to make sure the transition to the new facility is as smooth as possible.
