Responding to Labour’s pledge to create 50,000 jobs in Wales, Shadow Welsh Secretary Cheryl Gillan said:
“Government doesn’t create jobs. Businesses do – unless Peter Hain wants to create more in the already overgrown public sector.
“This announcement is a cruel deception from a party whose policies have led to 23,000 more people losing their jobs in Wales in the last year, and which have created the highest unemployment rate of any UK nation.
“Unemployment in Wales is at a 15-year high, yet Labour’s stubborn refusal to face facts means their policies have cost another 9,000 people their jobs in the last quarter.
“The fallout from Gordon Brown’s recession continues to have a direct impact on individuals, families and businesses across Wales.
“That’s why we need change and a Conservative Government to boost the Welsh economy, protect jobs, stimulate investment and exports, and promote enterprise.”
