Jones: Labour challenged over ‘scaremongering’ leaflet

Welsh Conservatives today accused Labour of deliberately targeting vulnerable people with misleading claims in their election literature.

Election addresses distributed in the name of Labour’s Clwyd West candidate Donna Hutton make seriously inaccurate claims about Conservative policy.

Local Conservative candidate David Jones accused Ms Hutton of cynically misleading voters. Similarly misleading Labour leaflets are also being distributed in neighbouring Aberconwy.

David Jones said:

“This blatantly misleading leaflet is trying to scare some of the most vulnerable members of society by telling straightforward lies and half-truths.

“It is a repetition of Labour’s conduct with regard to cancer patients over the weekend.

“I am surprised someone with Ms Hutton’s background as a Brownie group leader should be involved in peddling material which is clearly designed to scare people.

“Instead of employing such shabby tactics, Labour should explain to people what they would do to rebuild the economy from the wreckage of Gordon Brown’s recession.

“The truth is that the re-election of a Labour government with more debt, more waste and more taxes would bring us a new recession which would hit vulnerable families and individuals across the country.

“Sadly, however, it would appear that Ms Hutton and her party would prefer to spread alarm and anxiety rather than tell the truth about the damage Labour have done to our country.”
