Welsh Conservatives have today raised concerns about the decision to allow the NHS contribution for nursing care in independent sector care homes to increase by only 0.75% while the contribution for nursing care in NHS hospitals will rise by 2.25%
Commenting on the collaborative agreement by local health boards in Wales, Leader of the Opposition Nick Bourne AM said:
“It is gravely concerning that the nurses in independent care homes are suffering discrimination as a result of their place of work.
“The Labour-Plaid Assembly Government must ensure that these nurses are treated fairly, irrespective of where they work.
“The Welsh Conservatives would seek to ensure that the nurses in these care homes received the same uplift as those employed in the NHS to ensure an even playing field.”
Shadow Minister for Health, Andrew RT Davies AM added:
“We condemn the discriminatory mandate of this collaborative agreement, which leaves a significant number of hardworking and compassionate nursing staff disadvantaged.
“The Health Minister must ensure that all nursing staff can expect a fair deal, whether they work in the NHS or in the independent sector.”
