A North Wales Council is reminding the community that some advertisements need permission.
Unauthorised adverts, such as events banners, birthday banners and business signs are becoming more widespread, but many people don’t realise that such displays are a criminal offence.
Advertisements are regulated under the Control of Advertisement Regulations 1992.
If adverts affect highway safety, and if they’re put on safety railings for example, they can be removed and the matter may result in prosecution. In other cases, the visual impact might be unacceptable or the site inappropriate for such adverts.
If you are unsure if your advert requires consent contact Conwy’s Planning Services on (01492) 575247, with details of the specific location, size of the banner, the banner content, confirmation of whether the permission of the owner of the land has been obtained and details of how long the advertisement will be in place.
If consent is required, the application process takes about 6-8 weeks.
