Work is due to commence this week on upgrading Central Bus Station.
The works include better seating facilities, roofing, flooring and lighting as well as improvements to public information and access points.
Work begins today, Monday June 7, and is expected to last four weeks. Cardiff Bus services affected include:
- 95
- X91
- weekday, evening, and all day Sunday journeys on services 92 and 94
These services will be moved to stand JQ, on the south side of Wood Street, opposite Cardiff Bus’ information office adjacent to the bus station exit.
New gateway features will be introduced at the station with additional entrances to stands D, E and F and enhanced crossing facilities with greater protection for pedestrians accessing each stand.
Improved bus information will be provided at the east side (adjacent to Greggs) and at the south side (Central Square) of the station, displaying details of all bus arrivals and departures. In addition, details of buses leaving each stand will be displayed at the stand entrances.
Public Transport Information staff are also being introduced and will be available to members of the public to answer any questions regarding bus arrivals and departures. Staff will also be present in the new information kiosk which will provide clear, comprehensive information for passengers.
The works form part of the Council’s continued efforts to keep Cardiff moving by providing an easily accessible, reliable, frequent and affordable public transport service. Buses are likely to make the biggest difference in achieving a shift from car use to more sustainable travel and improvements to bus services and facilities are, therefore, vitally important.

“Our aim is to encourage more people to use buses in Cardiff to help reduce congestion and pollution throughout the city. We recognise the importance of the continued provision of an effective bus/rail interchange, and related facilities for long distance coach services to be retained close to Cardiff Central Railway Station so that they are integrated effectively with local, regional and national rail services. “
