A Neath Port Talbot Council employee has raised £1000 for the Special Needs Activity Centre (SNAC) in Taibach after running the London Marathon last month.
Caroline Davies, originally from Goytre, but who now lives in Tanygroes Street in Port Talbot, completed the route in 4hours 51 minutes.
It was Caroline’s first attempt and she trained for six months beforehand by running 585 miles.
She said, “I’ve been running now for 12 years and the London Marathon is something I’ve always wanted to do.
“It was an exhilarating experience and I was delighted to have completed the whole route.
“SNAC is a very popular and well loved local centre which is held in high regard and valued by the whole community.
“I want to thank everyone who sponsored me to raise such a fantastic amount for such a worthy cause.
“I am now looking forward to running again next year.”
Caroline’s husband Laurie ran alongside her completing his run in 4 hours 3 minutes.
Accepting the cheque from Caroline was president of SNAC, John Rogers.
He said, “My congratulations to Caroline on completing the prestigious London Marathon at her first attempt.
“This is a fabulous achievement and we can all be proud of her.
“Caroline is a local girl from Goytre and I thank her sincerely on behalf of the whole community for raising this wonderful amount of money for SNAC.”
Sending his congratulations as well, Council Leader Ali Thomas praised Caroline for her fundraising efforts.
“Caroline’s achievement is recognised by everyone here at Neath Port Talbot Council – councillors and colleagues alike.
“All her hard work and training will bring huge benefits to children locally.”
