Water warning

Denbighshire Lifeguards are reminding people to take care when visiting the beach this summer.

Lifeguards were on hand to deal with two incidents in Prestatyn over the weekend.

A mother was concerned about the health of her 4 week old child who was brought to the lifeguard station in Prestatyn. An ambulance was called and the baby was handed over to the ambulance service for further checks.

Shortly after this, the lifeguards noticed two people getting into difficulty on the rock groynes. It appeared that the swimmers had got caught in a small rip current as the tide was ebbing which subsequently dragged them towards the rocks.

Two lifeguards entered the water and pulled them to safety. The lifeguards treated the swimmers for minor cuts to their legs and then checked by the ambulance staff due to their inhalation of water.

Lifeguard Paul Sellwood said “We encourage people to swim on a beach where there is a lifeguard so that we can keep watch over them, luckily for these two we were able to spot that they were in difficulty, and respond immediately to get them out of danger, before the situation deteriorated any further.”
