All at sea

A group of nine young people from Haverfordwest, Neyland and Milford Haven recently sailed from Neyland to Cork and back, stopping off in Dunmore East on the way.

The voyage – organised by Pembrokeshire Youth – was aboard the 72-foot sail training yacht Challenge Wales and lasted a total of five days, including a couple of days in Cork.

During their time in Cork the young people met up with crew members of the 2009 – 2010 Round the World Clipper Race fleet and were shown around the Team Finland yacht which had just won that particular stage.

They also met up with Liz Hamer-Davies from Rhayader, a crew member of the overall winners of the round-the-world race, Spirit of Australia.

Liz was thrilled to see a group of young people from Wales while in Cork and contacted the group before the end of her own voyage of discovery, congratulating them on completing their challenge.

On their return to Neyland marina on the Saturday morning the group also took part in the SeaFair Haven 2010 sailpast before returning to life on land, tired, but with a great sense of achievement.
