Great night at the prom

Students at Portfield School in Haverfordwest have enjoyed their first ever Prom.

Dubbed ‘Stars of Portfield’, the event was the brainchild of headteacher, Sue Painter and was attended by more than 20 staff who worked hard to ensure it was a great success.

They were aided by servicemen from the 14th Signal Regiment at Cawdor Barracks, Brawdy, who gave up their spare time to transform the school hall into a fitting venue. Tables and chairs were provided courtesy of the Sergeant’s Mess

Also helping were The Friends of Portfield who gave a financial donation and provided volunteers on the night,

Pembrokeshire balloon artist, ‘Balloons-by-Alex’, created fantastic balloon table decorations, bows for the backs of the chairs, an arch for the room and also a balloon drop.

The students designed and created the table names and holders in their Inclusion class at Tasker Milward while Portfield’s Upper Five class drew-up the table plans.

To add to the glamour of the star-studded event, each student dressed especially for the occasion. As they arrived to step onto a red carpet they were met by a Guard of Honour provided by the 14th Signal Regiment.

On entering the hall, each guest was announced and received a standing ovation from the staff which added to the atmosphere.

The entertainment was provided by the Rob Thomas Disco and Robbie Lee provided the singing.

The food was supplied by Jo Griffiths from Bon Appétit, Robeston Wathen. Earlier this year Jo took part in the BBC’s Masterchef programme.

The Tenby branch of the chartered accountants, Alexander Partnership, sponsored the mouth-watering dessert course of a chocolate fountain with three pineapple towers covered in marshmallows, fudge and fresh fruit.
