Kayaker with dislocated shoulder rescued by Pembrokeshire RNLI lifeguards

Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) lifeguards at Newgale Beach in Pembrokeshire came to the aid of a kayaker who had dislocated his shoulder on Wednesday, 4 August.

The kayaker, aged 34, from Essex, had been surfing at the beach when his craft flipped over and threw him out.

As a result, his shoulder popped out of its socket. RNLI lifeguards Jess Gates and Jack Pinson went to the aid of the kayaker after being alerted by a member of the public.

They took a lifeguard trauma bag and administered oxygen and entonox, while waiting for an ambulance, which had been called by other lifeguards.

Two off-duty lifeguards Jasmine Middleton and Tom Thurston also assisted in helping and evacuating the casualty to Withybush Hospital.

Earlier in the week, RNLI lifeguards Jack Pinson and Scott Candler had helped the campaign group Surfers Against Sewage who had organised a beach clean at Newgale on Saturday 31 July. The lifeguards had been patrolling the beach on the all-terrain vehicle (quad bike) and helped to take away large amounts of rubbish.
