At 13.58 on Tuesday August 10 pagers were activated and Criccieth RNLI crew assembled at the boathouse to find out that a 30ft yacht ‘Tequila’ had engine trouble one and a half miles south of Criccieth Castle.
The Atlantic 85 ‘Doris Joan’ was launched and towed the boat and three occupants from Wrexham to the lagoon at the entrance to Pwhelli harbour.
The yacht was anchored here due to the water restrictions to get in or out of Pwhelli harbour.
The Criccieth RNLI Lifeboat returned to station and was re-fuelled and ready for service at 4.45pm.
Later the pagers were activated again at 17.55 to assist a man that had a lung complaint. It was decided to launch the Atlantic 85 and the Arancia by road to Porthmadog.
Both boats proceeded to the casualty and two crew members from the Atlantic were put ashore to assist the two casualties who were from the Liverpool area.
They needed no medical assistance and were taken aboard the Atlantic via the smaller Arancia lifeboat and taken to Porthmadog.
The main concern was now the land rover vehicle which was completely submerged becoming a navigational hazard.
An anchor and buoy was obtained from the harbourmaster and the RNLI crew marked the position before returning to station.
The Criccieth RNLI Lifeboat returned to station and was re-fuelled and ready for service at 8.00pm
