Whizzes with quizzes

Every year the Schools Library Service  organises quizzes to test the literary knowledge of Comprehensive School Pupils from Caerphilly and Blaenau Gwent County Boroughs.

A different school venue is used for each quiz, with school libraries now struggling to accommodate the visiting teams due to the number of entries received. The popularity of the event means two quizzes are now held annually, one for Year 7 & 8 pupils and the other for Year 9 & 10 pupils.

Oakdale Comprehensive hosted the Year 7/8 quiz this year. The winners on the day after a very challenging quiz were Rhymney Comprehensive, with Risca Comprehensive in second place and Heolddu Comprehensive taking third. Each team that entered took a set of books back to their school libraries, with every participating pupil also being given a small gift to remember the day.

The Year 9/10 quiz was held at Lewis School, Pengam and proved to be a closely fought competition. The eventual winners were St. Cenydd after success in a tiebreaker round. Abertillery Comprehensive had to be satisfied with second place this year and trailing both by only a single point was Blackwood Comprehensive in third. Again each team took books back to their school library as well as small mementoes for themselves.

The winning teams received plaques and the three top teams from each quiz also received book vouchers for their schools.
