Volunteers will meet with council officials and Neighbourhood Policing Teams later this month to look at how they can contribute to make Caerphilly county borough even safer.
The Safer Caerphilly Volunteer Network is a group of dedicated volunteers comprised of active members of the community, including Community Crime Fighters, Neighbourhood Watch Coordinators, Tenants and Residents Association representatives, Community Partnerships and Crime Prevention Panel members.
The event will take place on Monday 22nd November at Caerphilly County Borough Councils headquarters Penallta House, from 5.45pm -8pm.
The meeting will introduce OWL, the Online Watch Link, a modern communications tool that allows crime alerts to be shared easily and effectively. It works as people are encouraged to record observations, no matter how trivial they may seem, and the data is stored and recorded as searchable intelligence to the police.
The system has been extremely successful in regions across the UK and it should prove to be an interesting presentation, and a chance for volunteers to voice their opinions on the system and what they would like to see happen.
Cllr Lyn Ackerman, Cabinet Member for the Environment and a trained Community Crime Fighter said, “Multi agency working is vital in our quest for even safer communities. We are extremely lucky to have the Safer Caerphilly Volunteer Network working alongside our partnership as they are a dedicated and effective group who can be relied upon to assist with some very important local issues.”
The Safer Caerphilly Volunteer Network is in a great position to take a leading role in civic engagement with little guidance due to its successful work to date and fantastic volunteers. The network is one of the first of its kind and is making big strides in the community.
The group of volunteers act as the vital direct link between crime and disorder fighting agencies and the communities they serve in Caerphilly county borough.
