Several community groups have secured over £2 million of Welsh Assembly Government funding to deliver youth projects across Rhondda Cynon Taf.
Communities First Partnerships across the area, from Aberdare and Ferndale to Porth and Tonyrefail, will share the £2,126,381 funding to continue activities such as children’s afterschool clubs, youth work, family centres and clubs to teach basic skills to young children.
The Partnerships have worked closely with Rhondda Cynon Taf Council and local voluntary organisations to ensure their work compliments existing youth projects and does not duplicate any work already underway.
Wales’ Social Justice Minister Carl Sargeant said:
“This work is crucial to support children, young people and their families in some of Wales’ most deprived areas.
“The projects are an opportunity for young people to get involved in different activities, such as helping their communities, learning new skills and enjoying themselves constructively. Other projects include helping toddlers with basic education or providing a community environment for parents to come together and meet other parents.
“I hope the projects continue to benefit children and their families across Rhondda Cynon Taf.”
