A group of primary school children from Upper Rhymney are about to host their new production – Cinderella, with a little help from their local officers and the Arts Council of Wales!
The popular production, which will be showing at Upper Rhymney Primary School on Tuesday 9th November, has been cleverly adapted to a 1970’s version of the classic and they hope it will be a big hit with their local community.
The children are hosting the show as part of the Upper Rhymney ‘Night-Out’ Young Promoters scheme, which is run by the Arts Council of Wales along with Gwent Police. The project helps officers to engage with young people in the area and helps to bring popular shows into local community settings.
Over the last month the group of young children, aged between 9 and 11, have been attending weekly after-school workshops to put in place preparations to host the show as well as learn new skills along the way, including approaching local companies for sponsorship, inviting VIPs, marketing and selling the tickets as well as arranging the refreshments. The group have also attended Bryn Meadows Golf Club to meet with the management to learn more about running events.
On the night Upper Rhymney ‘Night-Out’ Young Promoters will take charge in running events, helping the performers of Fairgame Theatre to set up, organising the front of house, welcoming the audience by making speeches and tidying up at the end.
Set in the present day, Cinderella and Prince Charming, now older and bankrupt are touring village halls with a cart, attempting to scratch a living with an ancient karaoke machine. Throughout the evening, with the wisdom of hindsight, they tell their well-loved story through re-enactment, dance and the rocking 70′s hits that brought them together. The evening draws to a romantic end, reminding us all that you’re never too old for love.

Christine Smith said: “All the children have worked extremely hard to help bring the show to the Upper Rhymney community. The children put a great deal of their time and effort into the show and it’s great to see their efforts pay off. The night promises to be entertaining and it is a fantastic opportunity to bring the community together to share the experiences that these children have had over the last few weeks.”
Tickets cost £2.50 for children / £3.50 for adults – Tickets can be purchased in advanced at Upper Rhymney Primary School.
Doors open from: 5.30pm – show starts at 6.00pm.
