Fairwater Leisure Centre has hosted two handicap squash tournaments as part of the celebrations to mark the 25th anniversary of the opening of the centre.
The events were supported by Squash Wales, The Community Cohesion Fund and Fairwater Leisure Centre and received an impressive number of entries.
Organisers Rosina Jenkins and Tony Baird set handicaps for each individual player to ensure that a fair and competitive tournament was enjoyed by all.
All ages joined together for the events which saw members of the junior coaching programme show great potential as they came up against some of the more experienced players.
During both finals, players from different ends of the age divide were brought together. Scott Clode, 18, made both finals. He beat 46-year old Mark Davies in the first tournament however lost out to 52-year-old Gary Griffiths in the second.
Executive Member for Sport, Leisure and Culture, Cllr Nigel Howells, said: “The squash community at Fairwater Leisure Centre has become well established over the years. It is great that tournaments like these take place to encourage competitive sporting activity amongst people of all ages which promotes active and healthy lifestyles.”
Fairwater Leisure Centre runs 15 squash leagues and is home to men and women’s teams that compete in South Wales and South Glamorgan leagues.
