Denbighshire Council to consult on language impact of development

Denbighshire County Council is to consult on a report which looks at ways of minimising the impacts and maximise the benefits to the Welsh language and culture from development.

The Community Linguistic Impact Assessment has been prepared as part of the progression of the Local Development Plan.

The document focuses on identifying potential impacts of the proposed key strategic site located at Bodelwyddan and makes important recommendations as to how the linguistic and cultural character of the area can be protected and further strengthened as a result of the development.

Recommendations include bilingual marketing of the site; increased provision of Welsh language classes; securing a Welsh medium primary school for the area and working with local colleges to develop skills and training programmes to enable local people to take advantage of development and employment opportunities.

Councillor Sharon Frobisher Lead Member for the Environment and Sustainable Development said, “This consultation document highlights the importance of the Welsh language and culture within the County and provides many valuable suggestions as to how this can be strengthened in the Bodelwyddan area; measures that can also be applied throughout Denbighshire.”

The consultation will commence at from 26 January for six weeks and copies of the document will be available at all libraries, one stop shops and on the Denbighshire website from that date.
