Swansea’s Christmas market returns

Festive red and green chalets have now returned to SwaXmasLights200px_1nsea city centre in readiness for the annual Christmas Market.

The attraction is being made available on Oxford Street from Friday  to December 13.

A variety of cheese, wine, jam, sweets and luxury hand-made chocolates will be among the produce on hand at the 35 stalls.

Olive wood sculptures, scenic photography, shawls, hats, bags, purses, garden ornaments and jewellery will also be on offer.

The return of the Christmas Market follows on from the arrival of Waterfront Winterland in the grounds of the National Waterfront Museum.

Daily street entertainment has also been arranged for the city centre from November 27 to December 13.

Local school and church choirs as well as live music from local bands will be among the fun on a festive Portland Street stage everyday from noon to 3pm and from 5pm to 7pm on Wednesdays and Fridays to coincide with late night shopping.

The Wave and Swansea Sound have also arranged more outdoor broadcasts for Plymouth Street and Lower Oxford Street every Saturday from November 28.

Free activities and special offers will be among the fun from 10am to 2pm and bands such as Baggy Trousers have been organised to entertain shoppers.

Cllr Graham Thomas, Swansea Council’s Cabinet Member for Culture, Recreation and Tourism, said: “The Christmas Market is a much-loved annual feature of Oxford Street in the build-up to Christmas.

“It helps to generate a fabulous festive atmosphere and gives shoppers the opportunity to browse for foods and gifts not normally available here on their doorstep.

“The market will combine with a seasonal entertainment programme to further promote Swansea city centre’s reputation as the regional shopping centre of south west Wales.”
