Art Future in Fine Hands

An art exhibition that gives a tantalising glimpse into the future of fine art is now open to the public at Galeri, Caernarfon until 20th May 2011.

Selected by Galeri, the 24 Hands exhibition showcases the work of twelve Coleg Menai second year fine art students. Always absorbing, often audacious, sometimes divisive, the talented exhibitors give an annual “must see” show, and a taste of things to come in the contemporary art world.

The exhibition was officially opened on Friday night (6 May 2011) by Anders Pleass, the renowned Head of Exhibitions at Oriel Mostyn Gallery, “It was a privilege and honour to open this fascinating exhibition. It gives us an opportunity to look at what emerging artists are doing and gives a taste of the future for contemporary art.  It’s also useful for me to get an idea of what will be filling our galleries in the very near future.

The students will hope to follow in the footsteps of some of Coleg Menai’s past students which includes prize-winning artists Bedwyr Williams,  Elfyn Lewis and blacksmith Ann Catrin Evans.

Helen Jones, BA (Hons) Fine Art course leader, thanked Galeri for “giving the students a rare and invaluable opportunity to display their work in professional surroundings.”

The exhibits featured in this year’s exhibition include fine art, sculptures, photography, video and printmaking.

The exhibition, which continues at the Galeri’s Art Space until 20th May 2011, is open between 9am – 5pm week days, and 10am – 5pm on Saturday and Sunday.
