Commenting on the introduction of angioplasty treatment at the Royal Gwent Hospital William Graham AM said:
“I have campaigned for many years for angioplasty treatment to be introduced at the Royal Gwent. I gained an assurance from Edwina Hart – then Health Minister; of her commitment to look with interest at the business case for enhancing the cardiology services at the Royal Gwent”.
“This new service means that elective patients (those with a known cardiac illness) will wait just a few weeks and acute cases (heart attacks) two or three days. In recent years elective patients have waited many months and acute patients for many weeks before transfer to the University Hospital Cardiff for treatment”.
“It is anticipated that over 40 patients each week will receive angioplasty treatment at the Royal Gwent”.
