Pupils tune up for singing extravaganza

Over 200 youngsters from schools in the Ruthin area will sing their hearts out at an event to celebrate National Cân Sing Day on June 21.

The Cân Sing Day is a national event with schools across Wales taking part and is managed by ContinYou Cymru, in partnership with local authorities and funded by the Welsh Government. It targets pupils in years 5, 6 and 7 and offers a training and support programme and curriculum-linked resources to support the teaching of singing in Wales.

Ten schools will be represented at the Denbighshire event, being staged at Rhos Street School, Ruthin on Tuesday, June 21.

Eleri Watkins, Denbighshire’s Music Co-ordinator, said: “This is a great opportunity for our youngsters to get involved in a national initiative which aims to promote singing across the country.

“There is a wealth of talent in our schools and our aim is to open pupils to new experiences through song and to encourage them to develop their vocal talents in a fun and informative way.

“The youngsters and the schools enjoyed working with the resource packs provided and look forward to putting their practice to good use at the Cân Sing event.”
