A new art exhibition will take a fresh look at everyday objects and turn the mundane into exceptional.
The Quality of Things exhibition at the Gwynedd Museum and Gallery, Bangor will challenge the view that still life art portrays objects as lifeless pieces.
This exciting new collection aims to show the symbolism and narratives connected to domestic and everyday objects, which are a constant in our daily lives.
Delyth Gordon, Gwynedd Council’s Visual Arts Officer, said: “Art which portrays still life goes back centuries and often there is a strong message and symbolism behind the object depicted.
“The Quality of Things exhibition contains pictures of ordinary and familiar objects but there is much more to the work. Some works are very detailed and realistic – one can almost touch the objects. Others grasp the mood of the composition through the artists’ simple expression of the object.
“There are examples of current artists as well as works from historical collections in the exhibition. I would urge anyone who is interested to take the opportunity to appreciate these works.”
