Denbighshire is one of three councils to receive the latest awards for the quality of support and opportunities for development they provide to elected members.
At Tuesday’s meeting of Denbighshire Council, Cabinet Lead Member for Personnel and Business Management, Councillor Rhiannon Hughes and staff from Denbighshire were awarded with the Member Charter Award, developed by the Welsh Local Government Association (WLGA), to recognise the effort and time invested by local authorities to provide elected members with access to appropriate levels of knowledge, skills and development opportunities needed to fulfil their roles.
Councillor Hughes said: “This is an extremely important award for Denbighshire as it shows a real commitment to providing our members with the level of expertise, skills and knowledge in order to help them carry out their duties and help their communities.
“I am very grateful to the officers who have worked extremely hard to ensure members get the best training possible and our next challenge is to aim for Advanced Charter Status, which I am sure we will achieve.”
Across Wales there are now eight local authorities, two Fire and Rescue authorities and two National Park authorities with Member Charter Status although there is a lot of good work being undertaken by every local authority and affiliate member in the field of member development and support.
