Gwynedd Council has been given national recognition for its work in promoting the health and wellbeing of staff.
The Council recently received the Corporate Health Standard gold award at a Cardiff ceremony. The standard is run by the Welsh Government and the award reflects how health and safety matters are central to all the Council’s work.
As one of the area’s biggest employers, with around 7,000 full-time and part-time staff on the payroll in a wide range of fields, health and wellbeing is very important to the Council.
The Council was awarded gold for its effort in promoting staff health, for instance schemes to help people to stop smoking, promoting physical health and keep-fit schemes, occupational health, anti-bulling in the workplace measures and emotional support.
Studies show that there are significant benefits to schemes which promote staff health and wellbeing in any company or organisation, and leads to a return on investment.
Councillor Seimon Glyn, Gwynedd Council’s Human Resources Portfolio Leader, said: “This award is recognition of the hard work that has gone into the Council’s of staff health and wellbeing protection programme, and to target key issues within Health Challenge Wales’ priorities.”
