Denbighshire County Council is getting into the festive spirit by offering free parking after 3 p.m. in all of its car parks from November 21 until December 31, to encourage people to shop in the county’s town centres.
This complements a number of reduced charging schemes implemented in several Denbighshire car parks during recent months and supports the five free parking days allocated for use at the discretion of town councils.
Councillor Sharon Frobisher, Cabinet Lead Member for Environment, said: “The council feels it is vitally important to encourage people to use our town centres, especially in this current economic climate.
“We are hoping that people will take advantage of the parking offer to visit our town centres and shop locally in the variety of shops and businesses that can meet the needs of consumers.
“Regenerating communities is one of the council’s key priorities and we feel that offering this arrangement over Christmas will encourage residents to think local as an alternative and see what they have to offer.”
In a separate development, county councillors representing Prestatyn have also decided to subsidise car parking charges in the town’s Lower Central car park for the period when the lower part of the town sees major development at the Bus Station and the Stadium Development. This would also support the town’s traders by encouraging shoppers and visitors into the town.
The new parking charges are 10 pence for 30 minutes, 50 pence for four hours and £3.50 for longer periods.
In August Ruthin county councillors also used funding from the area group funds to introduce the same charges across all of the car parks in Ruthin.
