Tolls freeze would have offered ‘invaluable support’ to motorists, says AM

Speaking following the announcement that tolls for cars crossing the Severn Bridge will rise to £6.00 from New Year’s Day 2012, South Wales East AM Mohammad Asghar said:

“This latest toll increase will place extra pressure on the budgets of so many of my constituents.

“Welsh Conservatives proposed a freeze on the Severn Bridge tolls for the next four years, which would have offered invaluable support to motorists.

“A motorist crossing the Bridge for work every day would have saved over £75 in 2012 under Welsh Conservative proposals.

“The tolls impact upon so many areas of Welsh life – from our economy, to employment opportunities and tourism. This latest rise is bad news for hard-pressed families”.
