Davies: Budget agreement ‘endorses savage cuts to NHS’

Commenting on the Welsh Liberal Democrats’ decision to support Labour’s Draft Budget, Leader of the Welsh Conservatives in the Assembly Andrew RT Davies AM, said:

“The devil remains in the detail and we will need to carefully scrutinise this package to rule out simple window-dressing.

“Initial Liberal Democrat talk of a 40 million pounds ‘pupil premium’ certainly appears to have gone silent – or been bartered away.

“What is regrettably clear is the Liberal Democrats’ endorsement of Labour’s savage cuts to the NHS. We already know this budget will rip hundreds of millions of pounds out of our health service, at a time when waiting time targets are already being missed, vacancies are not being filled and frontline staff are being cut.

“It is unfortunate that, while their Westminster colleagues protect the health budget in England, the Welsh Liberal Democrats have chosen not to prioritise the NHS in Wales.”
