Castle photos wanted for Oystermouth calendar

Images of Oystermouth Castle are needed for a calendar dedicated to the historic landmark.

Swansea Council is asking anyone who has nostalgic or contemporary photos of the castle to get in touch by the end of April.

Twelve of the best images will then be picked for a calendar being put together by the Friends of Oystermouth Castle that will go on sale when the castle re-opens in June.

The castle temporarily re-opened last summer complete with new visitor facilities, an educational space and a 30-foot high glass viewing platform and bridge that leads to Alina’s Chapel.

The completion of ongoing conservation works at the attraction will soon allow people to explore parts of the castle that have been inaccessible for generations.

The majority of work was originally scheduled to be complete in 2014 but funds from the Heritage Lottery Fund and Visit Wales mean contractors are now aiming to finish this summer.

Swansea Council is behind the conservation of Oystermouth Castle for future generations to enjoy thanks to funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund, the Welsh Government through Cadw, the European Regional Development Fund and Visit Wales. The project is also well-supported by the Friends of Oystermouth Castle.

Andrea Clenton, Swansea Council’s Project Manager for Oystermouth Castle, said: “This famous historic landmark makes for a fantastic photo and we’d love to be able to put together a calendar in partnership with the Friends of Oystermouth Castle that people can buy as a memento when they visit the attraction from this summer.

“But what we need is for members of the public who have either contemporary photos or images of the castle through the ages to get in contact because we’d love to see the type of shots that people have.

“The best 12 photos will be picked for the calendar and will be forwarded to the Friends of Oystermouth Castle for inclusion.”

Email [email protected] if you have a photo of the castle that you’d like to be considered.

Most photos sent in will be added to a slideshow of images on the Oystermouth Castle website.

All photos picked for the calendar will appear with full accreditation and the contributors will get a printed calendar to keep for themselves.
