Make your own compost and give your garden a boost

Residents can get their hands on a free compost bin this week to help their garden bloom during the summer.

Swansea Council’s Recycling Team will be giving away the bins to residents in a bid to get them producing their own compost.

The bins can be filled with grass after the lawn has been cut, as well as with old plants and leftover vegetable peelings.

Trish Flint, Swansea Council’s Recycling Officer, said: “The majority of residents are using the Council’s garden waste recycling service to dispose of cut grass and other vegetation, but some may be keen to produce their own compost.

“The compost bins will give our green-fingered residents the chance to produce their own compost simply by filling the bins with grass or peelings.”

The free compost bin giveaway will take place on Thursday April 5 between 2pm and 4pm at Unit 4 ,St Luke’s Court, Winch Wen Industrial Estate, Llansamlet SA1 7ER.

Please note that due to previous high demand this offer is only open to residents living within the Swansea local authority area and is limited to one bin per vehicle.

They have very limited stocks, so the bins will be allocated on a strictly first come, first served basis.

The bins are either 220 or 330 litres in capacity and will require a vehicle with a large boot in order to transport them.
