Upgraded public conveniences in Blaenau Ffestiniog are expected to play a part in bringing the town’s history to life.
The toilets in the town centre are among the facilities in Blaenau Ffestiniog earmarked for improvement by the on-going EU funded regeneration project in the town.
Blaenau Ymlaen, Gwynedd Council and the Welsh Government are determined that the upgraded conveniences will be clean and tidy and well worth the visit.
The toilets building has a wealth of history as it used to be the Station Building from which slates were shipped to sea and across the world.
Working with Coleg Llandrillo (Dolgellau) students have been looking at ways of telling the story of Blaenau in the toilets.
“The students have been busy developing all sorts of ideas and we look forward to work with them to narrow these down in September,” said Eifion Williams of Blaenau Ymlaen.
“The plans for the refurbishment have been completed and the work will be tendered over the coming months,“ he added.
“Having clean and welcoming facilities for both residents and visitors will be a welcome boost to the town centre,” said Mandy Williams-Davies, a Gwynedd Council Councillor for Diffwys and Maenofferen ward. “It’s also good to see such an historic building being put to imaginative use.”
