Commenting on reports that ten Welsh Government funded public health initiatives have been branded ‘unlikely to bring a health benefit to the public’ by a panel of health experts, Darren Millar AM, Shadow Minister for Health, said:
“This report has effectively rubbished the effectiveness of a large number of hugely expensive schemes that have clearly wasted public money.
“At a time when problems like obesity and smoking should have been tackled head-on, it is now clear that Labour ministers have catastrophically failed to deal with them.
“As well as imposing record-breaking NHS budget cuts, Labour’s Carwyn Jones has also wasted millions more on ill-thought and ineffective projects.
“You have to question when you look at some of the case studies in this report, particularly the cooking bus, what on earth the business planning process was like in the first place that approved these sorts of schemes?
“Every pound really does count and spending millions on hare-brained schemes like the cooking bus, I think the public will quite rightly question what on earth the Welsh government’s been doing with their money.
“For the sake of future generations, Labour ministers should be effectively tackling public health issues at their roots and supporting all families to live healthy lifestyles.”
