Fireman Sam heads for Wrexham

AChildren’s favourite Fireman Sam is on his way to Wrexham.

The popular television fire fighter will be on hand at the Eagles Meadow shopping centre to give youngsters a half term treat on Tuesday, October 29. Between 11 am and 3.30 pm, at various intervals, children will be able to come and meet their screen idol and ‘hero next door’ at the shopping centre. Fireman Sam is a children’s animated television series about a fire man called Sam, his fellow fire fighters and the townsfolk of the fictional Welsh village of Pontypandy.

The series has achieved global success and has been translated into more than 25 different languages including Mandarin. At Eagles Meadow, Fireman Sam will also be helping to drive home some important safety messages ahead of Bonfire Night. Alongside him will be his counterparts from North Wales Fire & Rescue Service who will bring along an operational fire appliance for youngsters to have a close-up look at.

The firefighters from the Wrexham station will also run a special firework and bonfire safety quiz and all those taking part will receive a special prize. There will also be an opportunity for youngsters to try on a real fire kit and their picture taken, as well as meeting local firefighters.

Chris Nott, Community Safety Manager for Wrexham and Flintshire, said:

“We’re thrilled to be working alongside Fireman Sam at Eagles Meadow to help spread to word on fire safety. “Every year, countless people are badly injured and burnt in the run up to the bonfire season when lighting bonfires and setting off fireworks.

“We’d encourage everyone to celebrate November 5th by attending an organised display – they definitely provide the best value for money for entertainment and also ensure that families no longer need to risk the dangers of back garden bonfire and fireworks parties.”

Eagles Meadow Manager Kevin Critchley said:

“Our shopping centre is at the heart of the community so we think it is important to put on terrific, free events, such as inviting Fireman Sam to visit, to help with entertaining the children during the school break.

“He is going to be a smash hit with our young shoppers and hopefully give parents a bit of a bargaining tool for having a day’s shopping with us. “We are all looking forward to the fun and lively atmosphere his appearance with us is going to create.”
