Accident and Emergency waiting time targets have been missed again.
Government statistics published today show 89.8 per cent of patients spent less than four hours in an emergency care facility in June.
The all-Wales target is 95 per cent and was last met in August 2009.
96.9 per cent of patients spent less than eight hours in emergency care facilities in June.
The all-Wales target is 100 per cent. It was very nearly met in October 2009 but has dropped since.
Welsh Conservatives recently obtained figures showing how many patients wait over 12 and 24 hours in accident and emergency. The Assembly group called for these figures to be published monthly – alongside four and eight hour stats. As yet, there has been no government commitment to do so.
Shadow Minister for Health Darren Millar AM said:
“These are crucial targets that have not been met since the current First Minister took his post.
“Not only is that frustrating for all those forced to wait in A and E, it is an appalling indictment of Carwyn Jones’ ability to get a grip on the problem.
“I fear bed shortages are to blame and the negative impact on vulnerable and elderly patients in particular should not be brushed under the carpet.
“With planned cuts in the number of 24/7 A and E departments in the future – personally endorsed by the First Minister – this bleak situation is only set to get worse.”
