A feast of festive fun in Bargoed

Bargoed town centre will host an extravaganza of festive events this weekend (Saturday 18th December), with three exciting activities taking place in one fun packed day.

For the first time Caerphilly county borough will host a real ice rink. Located in St Gwladys’ car park, skating will start at 10am and members of the public will be able to turn up on the day and skate for fun. Prices are £3 for adults and £2 for children and a booking system will be in operation throughout the day so members of the public are advised to turn up early to book their slot.

Having raised the heart rate with a bout of skating visitors to Bargoed can stroll along the High Street and enjoy a festive Christmas market with a selection of stalls selling jewellery, crepes, cakes and crafts, before visiting Santa’s grotto. Whilst in the warmth of the grotto, you can have a go at throwing a pot before enjoying a festive punch & judy show.

Whilst in the grotto visitors can make a free lantern in preparation for the day’s finale, a dazzling lantern parade through the High Street. Workshops are due to take place throughout the day ready for the parade to start at 4:30pm, leaving the Emporium Car Park and finishing at Hanbury Road car park.

To conclude the event with a bang, Wales’ award winning local firework company, ‘Pendragon Fireworks’, will be putting on an illuminating firework display to light up the skies above Bargoed with the best viewing area likely to be Hanbury Road car park.

Cllr Ron Davies, Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Planning said, “I am hopeful that these wonderful events will help give Bargoed a real boost this Christmas. There is so much going on right across the county borough this festive season, which is really helping us to put Caerphilly county borough on the map”.
