There will be a special literary tour to Yr Ysgwrn, home of the poet Hedd Wyn in Trawsfynydd on Thursday, 5 May 2011.
The bus tour will start from Gaerwen, Anglesey at 10.30am and there’ll also be a chance to catch the bus at Parc Menai in Bangor and in Caernarfon.
The life and death of the bard Hedd Wyn, or Ellis Humphrey Evans has become an important part of Welsh history. He was killed in the First World War in July 1917, but his poem entitled “Yr Arwr” (The Hero) won the Chair competition at the National Eisteddfod in the same year – six weeks after his death. This is why the 1917 National Eisteddfod is referred to as the “Eisteddfod of the Black Chair”.
During the tour on 5 May 2011, there will an opportunity to chat with Keith O’Brien in the Ednowain Centre, Trawsfynydd, before going on a walk to Yr Ysgwrn. Gerald Williams, a relative of Hedd Wyn, will be there to discuss the bard and his home and there will be a chance to ask questions.
There’ll be a small tea back at Ednowain Centre, Trawsfynydd before the bus leaves for Anglesey at around 4pm.
