A new way to pay into a credit union

Credit union members in Torfaen can now pay into their savings accounts or make a loan repayment by visiting the Torfaen council Customer Centres in Cwmbran and Pontypool or the One Stop Shops in Trevethin and Blaenavon.

As part of the partnership between Torfaen council and Gateway Credit Union, more than 1,000 credit union members will receive a payment card, making membership an even more convenient way to save and borrow.

Gateway Credit Union manager John Richards said: “We’re delighted the council has been able to offer us this help. Credit union members in Pontypool and Blaenavon received their cards before Christmas, and we’re now sending cards out to all our members in Cwmbran.

“The credit union already has community offices open for a few hours a week across the area and the office in Pontypool is open every day. However, this service adds another option for our members.”

As finances have tightened for families over the last year, Gateway Credit Union has seen an increase in membership, with people choosing to save locally and borrow at affordable rates from the credit union, making payments by cash, cheque, PayPoint or standing order. Council and housing association staff can even opt to save direct from their pay.
