A North Wales Council is helping nervous adults to take the plunge and learn to swim

Conwy County Borough Council is introducing swimming lessons specially designed for adults that are nervous around water or have a fear of water.

The sessions at Llandudno Swimming Centre and Llanrwst Swimming Pool aim to take the fear out of the water and give people the confidence to their take children and grandchildren swimming, or to jump into the pool or sea on holiday.  The sessions could put a stop to sitting-by and watching everyone else have fun.

Nia Williams, Conwy’s Aquatic Development Officer said, “Swimming is an enjoyable, healthy activity that has no age barrier, but there are many adults out there that have had negative experiences in water in the past and they have been put off swimming for life.”

“People can miss out on so much because of their fear of water, we want them to become confident in the water and be able to enjoy themselves with family and friends.”

The first session will involve a visit to the swimming pool to meet the teacher, and a chance to chat to other ‘would-be swimmers’ over a relaxed cup of tea or coffee.

If you want more information or would like to register to attend these sessions please contact Nia Williams on (01492) 575561 or email [email protected]
